Non-Surgical Jawline Contouring
Non-surgical jawline contouring is a popular cosmetic procedure that offers individuals the opportunity to enhance their facial appearance, using various non surgical methods including injectables, bio-stimulators and energy based devices. This non-invasive treatment typically involves the use of dermal fillers, specifically designed for sculpting the jawline and chin, biostimulators and Ultherapy to lift and tighten the skin. These procedures can help define and refine the jawline, reducing the appearance of jowls, sagging skin, and softening the contours.
The Jawline And Facial Aesthetics
The jawline plays a significant role in defining one’s overall appearance and are essential aspects of facial harmony and attractiveness. A well-defined jawline can convey a sense of strength, youthfulness, and symmetry. Factors that contribute to an ideal jawline include:
- Jawline Definition
- A strong, wide and well defined jawline with a clear angle can create a more masculine or youthful appearance, while a softer jawline can achieve a more balanced or feminine aesthetic.
- Symmetry
- A well balanced and symmetrical jawline contributes to overall facial harmony.
- Skin Tightness
- Skin sagging and laxity can negatively affect the appearance of the jawline. Firm, tight skin along the jawline and neck imparts a more youthful appearance
- Chin projection
- The projection and balance of the chin relative to the jawline is important to overall facial aesthetics. A recessed or overly prominent chin can disrupt facial balance
At Kaya Cosmedica in Melbourne, we provide a tailored non-surgical solutions for individuals looking to sculpt their jawline with minimal discomfort and downtime. Jawline contouring can slim the face, improve a recessed chin, increase volume and definition, reduce the appearance of jowls, bring harmony and balance to your facial features with natural looking outcomes.
The Ageing Jawline
As we age, there are several anatomical changes that occur to the jawline. These changes are part of the natural ageing process, and affect the function and appearance of the jaw. Key changes include:
- Bone resorption (gradual loss of bone density) of the jawbone (mandible) – reducing in height and width, and causing a sunken appearance to the lower face
- Loss of teeth causing loss of bone volume and height of the mandible
- Change in angle and proportion of the mandible, causing loss of definition
- Sagging skin and soft tissues, forming jowling along the jawline
A number of non-surgical jawline cosmetic procedures can help address the loss of volume in the face. Beyond that, it can also reshape, shift and rejuvenate different layers of skin, fat and muscle for a more youthful result.
What Is Non Surgical Jawline Contouring?
Non-surgical jawline contouring are cosmetic procedures that aim to enhance the appearance and definition of the jawline without the need for surgical intervention. Non surgical jawline contouring is popular, because it offers multiple advantages compared to surgery, including minimal downtime and reduced risk. During a consultation with Dr Khinda and her cosmetic nurse injectors at Kaya Cosmedica, an assessment will aid in determining the most suitable approach for your specific goals and facial anatomy.
Frequently asked questions
At Kaya Cosmedica, we take a holistic approach to jawline contouring. Depending on your needs, your procedure may include a combination of injectables and even cosmeceutical-grade skincare. Some options we commonly use include:
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are placed deep into the subcutaneous tissue overlying the jawbone to volumise, lift and provide support to the lower face. This added fullness restores a more youthful appearance by plumping areas that have lost volume, lifting areas that droop, and smoothing away wrinkles and fine lines. Dermal fillers can also be used to correct asymmetries in the lower face, enhance the chin and sculpt a more defined jawline. Treatment is quick and nearly painless. Results are apparent immediately following your appointment, and side effects are mild.
Dermal fillers are a temporary and reversible treatment. How long the effects of your procedure last will depend on several factors, including the area of treatment, the type of filler used and the rate at which your body processes it. Ongoing sessions will be necessary to maintain your results, but dermal fillers can last for many months before follow-up treatment is required.
Anti-wrinkle Injections
Anti-wrinkle injections are often paired with dermal fillers to produce a dramatically more youthful and sculpted appearance. Lines and wrinkles appear over time as a result of the natural movement of your facial muscles. Anti-wrinkle injections contain a potent neurotoxin that inhibits the action of these muscles, thereby smoothing existing wrinkles and helping to prevent the development of new lines.
These injectables can also be used to relax and soften overly pronounced masseter muscles (the “chewing muscles”), which can give the jawline a fuller and unwanted widened appearance. They can also relieve jaw tension and teeth grinding beyond reducing the size of jaw muscles.
Anti-wrinkle injections can also be placed under the jawline and along the neck to tighten the neck muscle called the platysma. The platysma is a muscle that pulls the jawline tissues including the jowls downward. Relaxing this muscle can tighten, smoothen and lift the skin in this area. This gravity-defying treatment is also commonly known as the Nefertiti Lift. Anti-wrinkle injections an also be injected into the chin, to relax the mentalis muscle which pulls the chin up. Relaxing this muscle can lengthen and better define the chin area.
Like dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections are a temporary treatment. Results can begin to appear three to five days after injection and reach their optimal levels within two weeks. Most patients can expect to see the benefits of the procedure for approximately three to four months, after which regular follow-up treatments will be needed to maintain the results.
BioStimulators
Bio-stimulators can also be used to contour the jawline. As we lose collagen and elastin as we age, we see a significant reduction in the elasticity of our skin. Remodelling the skin of our jawline provides support and structure, resulting in more youthful definition. Bio-stimulators contain a calcium molecule similar to that found in skin and bones, which breaks down over a number of months and stimulates the body to produce its own natural collagen in the treatment area. Once placed along the jawline with a microcannula, the increased collagen provides long term results increasing volume and providing structure and lift to the area.
Ultherapy Skin Tightening
Ultherapy is also effective at stimulating collagen to provide tightening of the lower face and jawline. Ultherapy delivers focused ultrasound energy to the deep SMAS layer below the skin surface, the same area addressed in a surgical lift. The energy generates a thermal effect in the tissue that triggers collagen growth. As new collagen develops, the skin and underlying tissues tighten, creating a lifting and tightening effect along the jawline, improving skin laxity. While other ultrasound devices are available (ie. HIFU), Ultherapy is the only device that allows ultrasound visualisation of the anatomical layers of the skin and tissues. This provides accurate and focused treatment, resulting in more effective and longer-lasting results.
Skincare And Skin Treatments
Achieving good skin enhances any results with treatment of the jawline area. Microneedling and LED therapy helps to induce collagen, strengthening the skin and dermal layers to provide better skin texture and skin tightness.
An effective skincare routine also helps to address anti-ageing concerns and is a good preventative measure. Active ingredients like Vitamin A stimulates and increased the production of collagen and elastin, and can help with reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, improve skin texture, acne and even pigmentation.
Each patient’s needs and goals are unique, and each jawline contouring procedure is customised as a result. During your initial consultation, we will discuss your concerns and determine what combination of treatments is needed to achieve your desired results. We will also discuss the optimal schedule for ongoing touch-up treatments to maintain your results.
Once your treatment plan has been developed, Dr Khinda will administer the appropriate procedures to sculpt your new chin and jaw contours. The length of your treatment session will depend on the type and extent of the treatments you receive. Possible side effects will also vary depending on the injectables used, but every procedure involved in jawline contouring is minimally invasive and requires minimal downtime.
Jawline contouring is a versatile non-surgical procedure that can achieve a slimmer face, a stronger facial profile or a more youthful appearance without the need for invasive surgery. The best way to determine whether you’re a good candidate for non-surgical jawline contouring is to schedule a consultation with Dr Khinda or her cosmetic nurse injectors.
