Ultherapy Skin Tightening
Ultherapy is a revolutionary non-invasive procedure for skin rejuvenation and tightening. This innovative treatment utilises microfocused ultrasound energy with direct visualisation to precisely stimulate collagen production deep to the skin’s layers resulting in a lifting and firming effect. One of the key advantages of Ultherapy is the use of real time ultrasound visualisation to customise treatments and improve outcomes, without noticeable downtime.

What Is Ultherapy?
Ultrasound (sound energy) powers the Ulthera system. The device delivers micro-focused ultrasound energy to the deep dermis & SMAS layer below the skin surface, the same area addressed in a surgical facelift.
The energy generates a thermal effect in the tissue that triggers collagen remodelling. As new collagen develops, the skin and underlying tissues tighten, creating a lifting effect and improvement in lines and wrinkles.
While other ultrasound devices are available (ie. HIFU), Ultherapy is the only device that allows live (realtime) ultrasound visualisation of the anatomical layers of the skin and tissues during the procedure. This provides accurate and focused treatment, resulting in more effective and longer-lasting results.
What Areas Can Ultherapy Treat?
Ultherapy is primarily used to target tissue laxity of the face and neck and décolletage. Specific indications include:
- Lift and tighten the brows and upper eyelid
- Forehead
- Improve jowling/sagging along the jawline
- Address neck skin laxity and sagging
- Reducing lines and wrinkles on the decolletage
What Age is Best for Ultherapy?
What determines someone’s suitability for Ultherapy is not their age; it is the elasticity of their skin. A good candidate for Ultherapy has some degree of skin laxity, to the point that their skin looks noticeably looser and less firm. For example, if you notice drooping of the brows and upper eyelid, and jowling and skin drooping along the jawline, Ultherapy may be the ideal solution.
Ultherapy can be an excellent choice for those who want some skin tightening and lifting but are not ready for surgery. While Ultherapy is not equivalent to a surgical facelift, many people feel more comfortable avoiding or delaying surgery and the accompanying discomfort, downtime, and cost. Some also use Ultherapy as a maintenance treatment after having facelift surgery.
Frequently asked questions
Consultation
At Kaya Cosmedica, each new patient requires a consultation prior to any treatment.
Our consultations are designed to provide you with a tailored experience that addresses your specific needs, concerns and expectations. During your consultation, we take a full medical history and perform a facial assessment to ensure the treatments we recommend are safe and effective for you. It also allows you to understand the treatment options at Kaya Cosmedica, ask questions and gain insight into our expertise and approach. Clinical photography is taken prior to treatments and to monitor your progress and outcomes. This allows us to work together towards achieving your desired aesthetic goals.
Treatment
On the day of your procedure, we may suggest taking analgesics and an antihistamine to reduce discomfort and swelling. Once consented, the treatment is performed with additional analgesia offered as required.
An Ultherapy procedure takes between 30 and 90 minutes, depending on which area is treated. After assessing your facial structure, the face is cleansed and marked according to the Ultherapy protocol for accuracy. Ultrasound conductive gel is applied, and with a live ultrasound display the Ulthera transducer is gently pressed to the skin and ultrasound pulses delivered sequentially until the complete target area is treated.
You may feel tiny amounts of ultrasound energy being deposited into the deeper layers of your skin, stimulating the collagen growth process. Comfort thresholds vary from individual to individual, most people report that the treatment is tolerable. The comfort of each individual is always a top priority at Kaya Cosmedica, and pain management options are always offered, including analgesics, vibration therapy, and laughing gas (nitrous oxide).
Ultherapy is considered a non invasive procedure and safe if conducted by a qualified and experienced practitioner. At Kaya Cosmedica, we are a certified provider of Ultherapy and our practitioners undergo regular training, and keep updated with the recommended protocols.
Like any medical treatment, there can be potential risks and side effects. These are discussed in detail during your consult. In summary these include:
- Discomfort or Pain during the treatment
- Temporary Redness or Swelling following the procedure which can last up to a few weeks
- Mild bruising
- Numbness or Sensitivity in the treated area which resolves over time
Rare and uncommon side effects include burns, hyperpigmentation and scarring.
Is there downtime after an Ultherapy treatment?
You can return to your routine immediately after your Ultherapy procedure. There are no post-treatment restrictions or requirements. Your skin may initially appear flushed, but the redness should fade within a few hours. Some people temporarily experience mild tingling, swelling, or tenderness to the touch. Less common post-treatment effects may include temporary numbness or bruising in localised areas of the skin.
Ultherapy is priced according to pulses per area. Therefore, the total cost of treatment depends on how many areas need to be treated to achieve the desired result. Some of the factors that go into the cost include:
- Number of areas being treated
- Size of the areas being treated
A face-to-face assessment must take place to provide an accurate quote.
How long does it take to see results after Ultherapy treatment?
The timeline for seeing results from an Ultherapy treatment varies with each individual. Mild immediate tightening might be noted within a few days due to existing collagen fibres contracting.
Most people see gradual improvements in skin tightness over a few weeks to months following treatment with enhanced collagen production.
The full effects skin tightening and lifting with Ultherapy become evident as the body produces more collagen at 6 months and can continue for up to 9 months following treatment.
At Kaya Cosmedica we schedule a treatment review with clinical photography at 3 and 6 months following treatment.
It is important to note that results vary according to the individual, are affected by age, skin quality and overall health and lifestyle factors.
The majority of patients achieve their goals with a single Ultherapy treatment. However, some patient opt for multiple sessions to achieve their desired level of improvement.
The longevity of results from Ultherapy treatments can vary depending on factors such as age, initial skin quality and degree of laxity, underlying health, lifestyle factors and the natural ageing process.
Generally results are long lasting and benefits may be experienced from a year to several years in some cases. However as the natural ageing process continues, maintenance treatments are recommended.
Will the results of Ultherapy look natural?
Dr PK and her team of registered nurses are qualified and experienced practitioners with a strong understanding of facial anatomy. Under Dr PK's lead, Kaya Cosmedica's focus is to ensure your natural beauty and that all treatments are always tailored to your unique profile to ensure a natural result.
At Kaya Cosmedica, we ensure that all new patients attend an initial consultation. Here your skin will be assessed, and all suitable options will be discussed. Our aim is to always enhance your natural beauty; some treatment options are better than others to do this.
The Kaya team utilise the SPT protocol (“see, plan, treat”), where your treatment is customised to you to ensure the most natural results. The Ultherapy See-Plan-Treat protocol is a newly introduced protocol which crystallises what experienced doctors have been doing when they perform an Ultherapy treatment. It marries the two vital technologies of the Ultherapy system – ultrasound visualisation and micro-focused ultrasound. The treatment is now divided into three steps, comprising planning stages even before the procedure starts:
SEE: During the initial consultation, your skin is assessed to understand your skin texture and determine your areas of concern. Then it is scanned with the Ultherapy transducer to evaluate your skin thickness on various parts of your face. This is an important and necessary step because, just like everything else – everybody’s skin is different.
PLAN: While the nurse prepares you for the procedure with topical numbing cream, your treatment will be planned with a detailed map using the information learned about your skin during the SEE step. These include marking out the treatment and detailing the number of shots to be delivered at ultrasound energy levels.
TREAT: The treatment commences by delivering micro-focused ultrasound with visualisation to treat the deep tissue planes based on the plan that was customised for each patient. Depending on which areas of the face, 1.5mm, 3.0mm, and 4.5mm transducers will be used to deliver the ultrasound energy. The three different transducers work on different layers of the skin – from superficial layers to deep foundational layers that could only be reached by a surgical facelift.
This approach ensures the most natural results for each individual.
